Review of the Catalina 25 by Rick Berkey

Year built 1989
Location of boat St. Marys Ohio
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1994
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, most definitely. The Catalina 25 is well built boat, easy to sail, and roomy for a 25'boat
Gear that's been added 1.roller furling 2.auto pilot 3.full boat cover 4.solar panel 5.self tailing winches 6.lazy jacks 7.knot meter
Structural or complex improvements Not at this time. If I do, it will be the table design, mounted to the bulk head.
The boat's best features 1. Pop top 2. very forgiving while sailing 3. the ability to access the head at 4am 4. very solid boat, quality built
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Holding tank cracked at lower fitting. Replaced tank and used the smooth white waste hose, no more smelly black hose.
Sailing characterisitcs fast boat, I have a wing keel, full batten main and 110 jib. I have no problem pointing to the wind.
Motoring characterisitcs I have a evinrude 9.9 long shaft and can motor at 5 knots.
Liveability comfortable- v berth sleep 2, don't sit up quickly, aft berth sleep 1 adult. We sleep 3 or 4 with no problem.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any My sales person - she was great, the broker - not bad, but could have been better.
Other comments I could write (type) volumes. My next boat Catalina 320
