Review of the Catalina 27 by John Hunley

Year built 1985
Location of boat Kentucky Lake
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1997
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? What I have is exactly what I wanted.Yes, I would buy her again.
Gear that's been added She has had wheel stearing added to replace the tiller (prior to my ownership).
Structural or complex improvements No. I haven't had a need to make any changes.
The boat's best features She is rugged. She has handeled well in unexpected 30 knot winds. For me, Sans Souci has been an excellent boat for a less than experienced sailor.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I have had NO problems that proper maintenance would not have taken care of.
Sailing characterisitcs Handels best in 8 to 10 knots. Very sluggish at less than 5 knots.
Motoring characterisitcs I have no problem hitting haul speed at about 75% max RPMs.
Liveability My wife and I use her for camping most weekends during the season. She is great for two to three people. I wouldn't recomend more three, four if two were kids.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Purchased from an individual.
Other comments Keep up the quality work.
