Review of the Catalina 27 by tim ford

Year built 1976
Location of boat Baltimore
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Racing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1997
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? definitely
Gear that's been added just the recommended rigging upgrades, keelbolts etc.
Structural or complex improvements not yet
The boat's best features low price for a lot of boat, relatively fast, proven phrf race success.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. not wild about the mainsheet traveller.
Sailing characterisitcs responsive and forgiving in all conditions up to 35-40 knots.
Motoring characterisitcs difficult to back down with outboard (9.9 Merc)
Liveability Have weekend cruised it and found it very spacious and accomodating for 2-3 people, for a 27 footer.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any bought from a friend.
Other comments the 27 is probably the best medium-size
