Review of the Catalina 25 by Adam Starr

Year built 1985
Location of boat Baltimore, md
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength Press here and selec
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1993
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, I have seen many 25 footers but none offer the space with the quality of the catalina 25. I have a swing keel, which is great for the upper Chesapeake Bay and I can get in close enough to the beach for my kids to swim off the boat. The boat is as stable as a rock...I have had her out in wind where I could barely go to windward, even with a reefed main. Excellent quality in hardware.
Gear that's been added Auto helm, depth finder, compass, VHF, AM/FM radio, knot meter
Structural or complex improvements not really, added two large drawers under V berth...everyone thinks it is factory...great storge and I only lost some of the space under the vee berth cushions.
The boat's best features Well designed...good use of space...quality construction...parts still available
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc.
Sailing characterisitcs
Motoring characterisitcs I use a 9.9 Evinrude. Throws a lot of water back to the cockpit on a windy day, but I think any displacement hull will do that.
Liveability Hard to live on a 25 footer...headspace is a factor too...but i did not buy it to live on it.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
