Review of the Catalina Capri-22 by daytripper

Year built 1987
Location of boat Western long island sound
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2017
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely.
Gear that's been added No just replaced some worn out running gear.
Structural or complex improvements No issues with structure that I am aware of. Previous owner added a solar vent which I believe keeps moisture out of the cabin when the boat is not in use.
The boat's best features Low maintenance, responsive sailor, affordable parts available.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Nothing other than normal wear and tear.
Sailing characterisitcs Pro: Very fast in light winds. Speeds up and fun when the wind comes up but boat does not seem to plane under any conditions. Feel this boat has greatly improved my sailing skills as boat immediately responds to any changes in trim. Con: Larger waves can bring the boat to a complete stop at times. Need to sail flat to avoid weather helm.
Motoring characterisitcs Using 6 hp long shaft - generally I dont use but nice to have. Original equipment swing down motor mount works fine.
Liveability Cabin very crowded with sails and gears. If we cleaned it up probably space for two to sleep for a night. Porta potty works but very little headroom so need to plan your approach.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any None.
Other comments Compared to my prior boat which was a 30 ft inboard this is much easier to maintain.
