Review of the Catalina 27 by Doug LeBon

Year built 1982
Location of boat Watts Bar, TN
The boat is sailed on Rivers
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2010
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes but maybe one that was in better shape.
Gear that's been added New sails, furler, electric propulsion, winches, power panel, traveler
Structural or complex improvements Aftermarket rudder
The boat's best features Easy to sail
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Inboard engine was hard to access. New electric propulsion takes up less space.
Sailing characterisitcs A little tender in puffs
Motoring characterisitcs Rudder design not good for inboard due to the amount of rudder in front of shaft. Tiller pushes to stops if let go. Rudder replaced with aftermarket rudder and now is much better.
Liveability No so much- mostly overnights
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Very helpful
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any N/A
Other comments Nice Boat
