Review of the Catalina 22 by Rich Fox

Year built 2006
Location of boat Indianapolis, IN
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Racing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2006
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. The C22 Sport is a very comfortable boat for day sailing.
Gear that's been added Added the following gear: 1. Racing Sails 2. Adjustable Backstay 3. Boom Kicker 4. Clutches 5. Internal Outhaul 6. Cunningham - Main 7. Head Knocker - Mainsheet
Structural or complex improvements None.
The boat's best features The larger cockpit with round edges greatly improves the comfort factor when sailing. The wider deck makes it easy to go forward.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The cabin is smaller than previous C22 models. However, 95% of time is spent in the cockpit.
Sailing characterisitcs Balanced helm. When properly equipped with good sails, a properly tuned mast/rig, and a clean bottom, the C22 Sport is a very "lively" boat that will easily trounce the PHRF competion in 10-15 mph wind. Also competitive with one-design/class racing.
Motoring characterisitcs A 3.5 hp 4-stroke motor will get the boat to hull speed.
Liveability No liveability - no galley, no table. This is a day sailing boat. The two side berths are long and wide for those times when you need a place to sleep for a night or two.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Catalina Yachts is very responsive.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Sailboats Inc of Indiana is a stocking dealer and provides full service and a retail store.
