Review of the Catalina 27 by Joe McCary

Year built 1981
Location of boat West River, MD Central Chesapeake Bay
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2007
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? YES! This is a great boat. It sails well. I sail about half the time solo and have no problem.
Gear that's been added I have added a Bimini, a Chart Plotter, I am about to add a mid boom traveler.
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features Best features are that this is an easy to sail boat.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc.
Sailing characterisitcs
Motoring characterisitcs With an outboard, I have found this not easy to control under power in REVERSE.
Liveability This is not a comfortable boat for any long term liveaboard. I would give this a weekend only rating.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I purchased this boat in late winter from a local broker. The deal was easy and the buyer met my very lowball offer.
