Review of the Catalina 320 by Matt Neuman

Year built 2000
Location of boat San Francisco Bay
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 23-30 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2005
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? It's a great boat for weekend overnighting and cruising. It is fun to race in light air, under 12 knots, but she tends to roundup in heavier air.
Gear that's been added We have added Maping GPS & Radar.
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features It was designed with performance in mind and it still has the typical Catalina expansive interior and amenities.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The boat will round up in heavy air making it a necessity to have someone on the main sheet at all times.
Sailing characterisitcs She is fun to race in light air as she sails fastest when sailed flat. The boat will round up in heavy air making it a necessity to have someone on the main sheet at all times.
Motoring characterisitcs She motors well into chop without considerable loss in speed.
Liveability Great for a short or long weekend. The refer is huge!
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I have not dealt directly with Catalina
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any The dealer is in business for himself, not the purchaser. They will do what they can to sell you the boat, not what is best for you.
Other comments My next boat will be another Catalina!
