Owner bought the boat in 2005
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yep, I would buy the blue boat again in a heartbeat. These are great boats to sail, and lots of fun.
Gear that's been added Have I added any gear, lets see um what haven't I replaced on the boat. All new hardware for the vang, centerboard, outhaul, and cunningham. Almost all of the hardward on the boat is new and all of the lines are new.
Structural or complex improvements Well when I got the boat, the bottom was cracked and broken in two spots, that I noticed. Had to cut out a section of the cockpit where I repaired the bottom and reinforced the boat. The deck was cracked and needed repair on the port side which neccesitated cutting a hole the port tank amidships. The deck was reinforced with west system and twenty ounce cloth and three stringers. Next up was reinforcing the side of the boat with more west system and twenty ounce cloth. Lots of nasty grinding and lots of sanding and more west system, the boat came back together. There was another crack under the bow that was not noticed initially due to it being under a spot where the hull rested on the trailer. This required more grinding and reinforcing with west system and twenty ounce cloth on the inside. Now the bottom was indented in the same area, so I ground that with the grinder and then put cloth in the ground out areas of the bottom. This was then sanded down and faired out with west system and 407 filler. The whole bottom was then coated with VC underwater epoxy barrier with teflon and sanded to 400 grit.
The boat's best features This hull is stiff and sails well in waves and big wind. Getting up on plane and the boat feeling very comfortable and in control are great sailing characteristics.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Unfortunatly the factory did not reinforce these boats very well. The tanks flex to much with your foot agains them and the bottom is not adequately reinforced for my taste. The bulkhead under the chain plate should have been glassed to the hull and the deck. The bow should be reinforced on the inside with thicker cloth and more resin. The piece of wood that is inside the boat and goes from the bottom of the tank to the inside bottom of the hull should have been glassed to the hull all the from the stern to the front end of the cockpit.
