Review of the Catalina 22 by Alex

Year built 1973
Location of boat Lake Wateree, SC
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2001
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, it's a great-handling boat and extremely easy to sail solo. Large cockpit and plenty of room for one and two people.
Gear that's been added None really. Made my own bimini cover.
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features Easy of handling. Stepping the mast and launching the boat is very easy to perform by yourself. Quick response to the wind. Good get up and go!
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. None
Sailing characterisitcs Great boat in 12-15 knots, but you need two "butts" on the rail in heavier winds.
Motoring characterisitcs Handles good with the outboard and gets into very shallow water.
Liveability I could live aboard for several weeks on a coastal cruise. Very comfortable at anchor. I don't have a galley, but could cook with a stern-rail grill.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) No contact with Catalina.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Bought from a private individual
Other comments Great boat to learn sailing techniques or hone your skills. Versatile and easy to launch.
