The boat's best features Incredible room below for her size. Dinnette converts to very nice queen sized bed. Galley has ample storage and work space. Overall great handling under sail and power. Super support network of owners.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Stanchion design has not changed in years! Over time they will loosen and gelcoat cracking along the gunnel will appear as folks use the stanchion for boarding support. Base of stanchion not secured thru deck, but rather held to deck by two screws that will weaken over time. Lack of backing plates on fittings.
Sailing characterisitcs Excellent balance in 20+ knots winds. Overall super in light to moderate winds.
Motoring characterisitcs I have the M-18 two-cylindwer Universal with a 14 hp output. Excellent for lake conditions.
Liveability Excellent liveaboard, if one desired to live aboard. A fridge can be added as well as loads of storage in the quarter berth area. Water tankage can be improved for liveaboard use. Plenty of lounging space and large cockpit makes it all very comfortable and cozy.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Have yet to deal with factory.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Private purchase. No broker involved. Survey, sea trial and purchase.
Other comments We are very happy with our vessel and are aware of the Catlaina 30 histroy and model series. With a great support network from thousands of sailors in addition to easy access to parts, the Catlaina 30 is a great investment. A perfect family boat.
