Review of the Catalina 22 by Will Kruse

Year built 1983
Location of boat Miami
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2004
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? I purchased this boat in aweful condition from a Chief on my ship. It spent several years of neglect rotting in his backyard. It is still under renewal, but I am enjoying it.
Gear that's been added I am in the process of adding an electric propulsion system constructed from high thrust trolling motors. It is the most significant change made yet.
Structural or complex improvements If you would like to see photos of the work in progress, go to www.picturetrail.com and enter KruseControl in the member name box. You can view the whole Dry Dock project.
The boat's best features Easy to set up. It takes me less than 20 minutes to go from trailer to water completely rigged.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The cockpit drains system is aweful. The deck slopes foreward instead of aft. So if the deckdrains clog, the water level will rise and flood the cabin. Bad design flaw.
Sailing characterisitcs Nice in medium winds but doesn't point well at all.
Motoring characterisitcs
Liveability It isn't.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
