If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely! This is a great, versatile boat. It's comfortable for 3-4 adults or 2 adults and up to 3 children. It is a reasonably priced and very popular even in the midwest. Although there are a considerable number of Capri 14.2s in the area, it would be nice to establish a racing fleet. The Capri 14.2 makes a great boat for learning, day sailing, and racing. There are a few items that should be standard from the factory or at least offered as an option: Rail cleats for tying up at a dock A clip on the mast to attach a whisker pole A boarding ladder or a transom step
Gear that's been added Boarding Ladder Whisker Pole (for racing)
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features The Capri 14.2 is simple to rig and easy to sail. The boat trailers easily. Roller furling jib is a nice feature for daysailing, although not recommended for racing. The boom rides high and offers safe sailing for novices and innocent passengers. The colorful factory sails are attractive and make the Capri 14.2 stand out on the water amongst other boats.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. It would be nice to be able to use one set of sails for daysailing and racing. Understandably the racing sails are cut differently, but they are also several square feet larger, thus giving the racing sails a considerable advantage over the factory sails.
Sailing characterisitcs The Capri 14.2 sails well in light and medium air which makes it ideal for Ohio summers when 95% of June, July, and August winds are 10 knots or less. With the standard rigging and setup it points well, while the boat really wants to move in stronger winds.
Motoring characterisitcs I don't use a motor and really haven't had the need for one. The boat is very light and easy to paddle.
Liveability
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
