Review of the Catalina 22 by Ulysse GUIBAT

Year built 1986
Location of boat Vancouver, BC
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2004
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes and no. The boat is great to learn how to sail (which is my case) but a bit cramped insite for week long cruising. Ok for weekends. Would have bought a 24-25 footer.
Gear that's been added A tiller blocking system. Works great when sailing solo. Wnt to add a dodger in the future for winter sailing.
Structural or complex improvements no
The boat's best features Easy to sail, large cockpit, lots of stowage space, pretty looking boat, inexpensive to maintain.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. none
Sailing characterisitcs Have not had the chance to really try the capability because of lack of winds which is, according to locals, typically summer conditions in the area. Had to motor a few times to return to moorage because of the wind dying completely.
Motoring characterisitcs Have a 8hp mercury 2 strokes electric start. More than adequate. Would have preferred a 4 strokes motor, hence lesst polution and less noise.
Liveability Great for daysailing or weekend for two.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Just ok.
Other comments I like the boat very much and it is a great entry level one. Probably a catalina 27 will be the next one.
