Review of the Catalina 310 by Ken Gezella

Year built 2004
Location of boat Rockwall, TX-Chandlers Landing Yacht
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2004
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? No question about it, it was designed for excatly the way my wife and I like to sail, the interior layout is perfect for us-roomy, open and light! Plently of stoarge space, although I do wish the handing locker was larger and there was a built in liquor cabinet with wine glass storage-see the trend here-crusers not die hard racers.
Gear that's been added AC/Heat Half bimimi, ST60 Wind/depth/speed
Structural or complex improvements Factory 3 blade crusing prop
The boat's best features Quality for the money-use of great gear-Lewmar 44 self tailers are awesome-brand name products. Cockpit is extra large and great for entertaining. Overall quality and design. The ease of the reefing system for the main is so awesome, coupled with the dutchman and WOW so easy.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Nothing yet.
Sailing characterisitcs Really not bad performance in light air (under 10knts), if you keep the sails trimmed properly she will move, so far the heavist breeze we have had has been 15-20 and kept the Rolling Furling in a couple of turns and we sailed along just fine.
Motoring characterisitcs Opted for the 3 blade crusing prop-I highly recommend it! It will cost you some sailing performance but motoring in tight spaces is no problem!
Liveability We liked the non traditional interior the best. Normally it would just be my wife and I in the salon, or maybe one other couple and it is the perfect setup, 2 table sizes-a small coctail table which we keep up all the time and the larger dining table that we have not used yet. Owners stateroom forward is very comfortable.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) No, other than my dealer set me up with the factory tour in Largo, Fl and it was great to see her on the production line under construction.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Inland Sailing in Garland Texas. Todd, Carol, and the whole crew are the nicest and hardest working folks you will ever meet. I do not think I would ever buy from another dealer after the great experience we just had. We never bought a new boat before and had thousands of questions and concersn and Inland never made us feel like we were bothering them-they even gave us a key so we could stop by after work and look at the boat during the comissioning process. A really nice touch.
Other comments Very Happy!
