Review of the Catalina 22 by Steve Miller

Year built 1989
Location of boat Badin Lake, NC
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2004
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely! This was a good purchase.
Gear that's been added N/A
Structural or complex improvements N/A
The boat's best features I especially like the wing keel. My boat is dry docked on it's trailer so everytime I go out I launch and retrieve and not having to mess with a retractable keel is very nice. I also like the cabin which has enough room for me and my teenaged son to spend an occasional night on the water.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I'm not particularly crazy about the split backstay, but I can certainly deal with it.
Sailing characterisitcs Badin Lake is primarily a powerboat lake which means we are constantly dealing with their wake. The Catalina 22 takes the wake very well, with little bow chop!
Motoring characterisitcs The 5 HP Nissan is adequate. A larger engine probably wouldn't propel the boat any faster.
Liveability OK for a weekend for two people.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) N/A
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any N/A
Other comments The design of this boat is timeless. I am constantly getting favorable remarks about it's beauty from sailboat owners and powerboat owners alike.
