Review of the Catalina 22 by jeff

Year built 1988
Location of boat toms river, nj
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2001
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes, great boat to get back into sailing after a time away. also great learner for my wife and kids.
Gear that's been added getting ready to install new tiller and heavy tiller straps this season, too much flex in stock set up.
Structural or complex improvements n/a
The boat's best features simplicity, easy to sail, exciting yet safe. fun family boat for daysailing and occassional overnight stay.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. previous owner installed lazyjacks too high on mast causing them to wrap around spreaders when running down wind, changing setup this season.
Sailing characterisitcs wing keel boat, a bit tender on initial puff, then she settles in and cruises. we went out w/double reef in 30-35knot winds last season and the boat handled it better than we did, got us home safe, altough wet on a two hour beat.
Motoring characterisitcs rarely use motor except for docking, so far no problems, 8hp sailmaster.
Liveability occassional overnight for 2 ok, 2 adults and 3 small kids,,,,,,,,,,,like a litter of puppies sleeping in a cardboard box.....
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) n/a
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any forked river yacht sales was great, dawn has the patience of a saint...
Other comments love the brand, hope to move up to a 34 some day.
