Review of the Catalina 25 by dave thompson

Year built 1982
Location of boat Whiskeytown, CA
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2002
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? yes. it is very used friendly and unforgiving so far
Gear that's been added it came with new furling sail, new main sail, new rigging so I have not had to add anything noteworthy
Structural or complex improvements none
The boat's best features easy to sail especially for a rookie sailor such as myself. The boat is very comfortable
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. too early to say
Sailing characterisitcs nothing extrodiary. Top speed so far about 7 knts
Motoring characterisitcs pretty easy to get in and out of slip. I have an older Honda 7.5 that seems adequate.
Liveability The boat is nice for 3-4 people.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) They were helpful. I had some questions about the swing keel. I purchased a Catalina book from them.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any bought from pvt party
Other comments My brother and I will be welding up a trailer for this boat this summer. I would love to hear any helpful hints you may have. I trailered this boat once using a rented trailer with no problems.
