Review of the Catalina 25 by Trent Skille

Year built 1981
Location of boat Lake Monroe, Sanford, Fl.
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1996
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, definately, I Love this boat. I just wish I had more time off work to take a long trip on it.
Gear that's been added New Depth sounder, Simrad Autopilot, High intensity L.E.D. running lights. Solar Fan to circulate air through cabin. Air Conditioner (mounts in companion way) A.M./F.M. Stereo with C.D. player Brand new 9.9 Yamaha 4 stroke motor.
Structural or complex improvements When I bought it, it had a 2X12 board for a rudder. I built a new rudder. My weekend project coming up is to replace the windows. They leak like a sive' I pulled them out last year and re-sealed them and they still leak. Now I have bought some smoked lexan and I'm going to router a 1/4" into the deck and seal them in flush with the deck.
The boat's best features Sails great.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. The only real problem I've had is the windows leaking.
Sailing characterisitcs
Motoring characterisitcs Motors great. I can go my hull speed with this new Yamaha 9.9.
Liveability Kind of small to live aboard. The cabin birth is very small, so we put a cooler and boards in the hall to connect the table to the bench seat and put cushions down. This allows us to sleep sideways in the cabin and we have plenty of room. The V birth is too small for a 6' adult.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments I can't wait to move up to about a 36' Catalina when I'm ready to. Until then this boat will do us just fine.
