Review of the Catalina 22 by Frank Verta

Year built 1976
Location of boat Toronto, Canada
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2002
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? I am new to the world of sailing. This being my first boat. As a beginner I am quite happy to have purchased this boat, and yes I would buy another.
Gear that's been added This spring I would like to rig the boat for single handling, by running the lines aft. Also I am contemplating on adding a furling system.
Structural or complex improvements Yes, the boat was neglected by her former owner. I had to sand and refinish the deck .
The boat's best features Excellent starter boat Easy to sail Affordable Roomy for its size Pop up top is an added bonus
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. For the vintage of the boat and the neglect she received from her past owner. All in all she stood up quite well.
Sailing characterisitcs Again being a novice. I take the boat out in normal conditions for this boat(under 20 knots). She sails well for the limited experiance I have .
Motoring characterisitcs I have a 9.9 on her. It has more than enough power.
Liveability I,ve seen and been on other boats roughly the same size. None compare to the cockpit room which this little boat has. I have four kids, and no one complains about being cramped. For the size of the boat and its purpose, it has more than enough space.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) No
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any No
