Review of the Catalina 22 by Skip Meisch

Year built 1977
Location of boat Puget Sound (Everett WA)
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew solo
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1998
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? I would buy a pre-1973 model. They are lighter and race faster.
Gear that's been added Virtually everything on my boat has been added by me. Go to: http://slowflight.net/upgrades/index.html
Structural or complex improvements Again, check out: http://slowflight.net/upgrades/index.html
The boat's best features Ease of sailing singlehanded
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. In general it is a sound boat right from the factory. My upgrades and improvements have been due to its age and for further ease of singlehanding. Some improvements have been required safety enhancements for certain races.
Sailing characterisitcs Every where from flat seas in zero wind to 8 foot seas and/or 30 knot winds gusting to 40.
Motoring characterisitcs Motoring speeds vary from 6.4 knots in calm sea to 4 knots into heavy waves.
Liveability Crowded for two or more. Ok for one.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) Very good!
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments Great little boat.
