Review of the Catalina Capri-16 by mike flanary

Year built 1994
Location of boat carlyle lake illinois
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2001
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? absolutely
Gear that's been added i color coded the halyards to make it more family friendly
Structural or complex improvements fish finder for depth and speed. bass pro shops. I also made a three-plank teak hatch door, as the original plywood was rotting. worth doing if you are a woodworker.
The boat's best features it can turn on a dime, literally, if you want. it is lightweight, but stable. the cockpit is larger than a lot of 22'ers. it is just delightful to sail, and it is really fast for it's size.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. the battery is back in there, a pain to get out. there is no front hatch, man that would be great. the placement of the mainsheet is a continual problem, move to the back.
Sailing characterisitcs nimble. light. very manueverable.
Motoring characterisitcs underway it's good, but going very slow you really need to have a hand on the tiller and the other on the motor
Liveability cramped. but enclosed.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
