Review of the Catalina 22 by Geoff Atkinson

Year built 1989
Location of boat Las Vegas, NV
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, I love my boat although we are looking to move up to a Catalina 25. With two kids, it is getting a little small inside.
Gear that's been added Topping lift, fish finder, lifeline netting, and gear hamicks.
Structural or complex improvements I have replaced my standing rigging and have started to refinish the keel.
The boat's best features The boat is easy to trailer. I love the pop-top and the space below for a boat of only 22ft. A well build boat. I love the fixed galley on the 89' model.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I do have some crazing but it does not appear to be structural.
Sailing characterisitcs We tend to reef early because my wife does not like to heel. Also, my crew is only 2 and 4 years old. We sail in light wind most of the time but have had the boat in more. Points up when overpowered on a close hauled.
Motoring characterisitcs 5 horse Honda pushes it fine but we can never be in a hurry.
Liveability Good for a weekend with a family of 4.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I have called them once and they were fine. Mostly deal with Catalina Direct
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Private party
Other comments We love it and we can't wait to move up.
