Review of the Catalina Capri-22 by Sam Mills

Year built 2002
Location of boat Lake Hartwell, SC/GA
The boat is sailed on Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2002
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes - The boat respondes very well. When a puff comes up she really takes off. It a thrill to sail and is very competative in club racing.
Gear that's been added Just some new sail.
Structural or complex improvements No
The boat's best features The Capri - 22 is a racer at heart with enoungh room in the cockpit to take the family on a just for fun daysail. I look forward to the next racing season - I think I can win a few with this one.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Nothing is broken so far. Launching and stepping the mast is a little more work that I like. I have a tall rig with a fin keel and the lake level is pretty low right now.
Sailing characterisitcs Fast - point well - accelerates like all get out.
Motoring characterisitcs I have a 4 hp nissan 4-stroke. More that enough power. you could probably do just as well with a 2hp.
Liveability smaill cabin - this is not a cruise - this a racer/daysailor. An overnight is ok
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) na
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Great
Other comments the finish on the keel is a little off so I'll fare it soon. The standard boat should come with some instruments
