Review of the Catalina 25 by Glen Caves

Year built 1983
Location of boat Menominee,MI
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? YES. The previous owner had added a rolling furler and it was sail ready.
Gear that's been added I removed the alcohol stove and installed a microwave oven and a rail mounted barbecue.I also installed a solar air vent.
Structural or complex improvements I removed the folding salon table and made a smaller table and shelf unit. It looks better and does not take up so much room when in use.
The boat's best features The swing keel. Due to the low water levels in the past few years we can go where others cannot.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Everything works fine.
Sailing characterisitcs The boat handles very well even in rough water. I don't worry about a knock down. It points well and it fun to sail.
Motoring characterisitcs I have a 9hp outboard. This boat can turn on a dime.
Liveability My bride and I spend many weekends sailing to other marinas and spend about 1 full week a summer on board. The weekends are fine but the boat really gets small after a week on board.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I had a keel support bolt fall out. I called Catalina and was given great service over the phone.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I bought it from a private party.
