Review of the Catalina 22 by Mark Stanford

Year built 1979
Location of boat Indian Harbour Beach
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 2001
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Absolutely! This little boat is a lot of fun. I don't hesitate to take on any other boat in the lagoon where I sail. This little boat has passed other larger boats with their skippers doing everything in their power to find more speed.
Gear that's been added Yes, I added a vent near the gas tank hatch, a new halyard, and carpeting.
Structural or complex improvements Not yet, I have only owned the boat a few weeks.
The boat's best features The pop-top will be very nice during hot summer weekend trips, the slide out galley is also a very handy way to utilize space. The best feature is the way the she passes larger boats.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. I have noticed that I get some water in the bilge via the swing keel cable hole.
Sailing characterisitcs The boat is quite fast and she heads up well.
Motoring characterisitcs The boat has an 8 hp outbaord. This seems to be enough power.
Liveability I would not want to live on the boat, but it will not be bad for over-night weekend cruises with my wife.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any
Other comments I am very glad that I bought it.
