Review of the Catalina Capri-22 by Michael McGrath

If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again?	Yes, this was a move up in performance from my Catalina 22. Wanted more performance and a solid keel. Everything else about her is just a bonus.
Gear that's been added	Hummingbird 100SX Fish Finder (much cheaper and looks better than depth finders of same price). New 155 Genoa Tape Drive Silver from UK, worth the price. Main next year. Also added AC/DC converter and recovering interior, will be done by spring. The previous owner did a lot to make it a solo sailboat. Extra CAM cleats, longer sheets and a reefing system that I still can't figure out.
Structural or complex improvements	None
The boat's best features	Cockpit size and the walk around deck. Friends have a Hunter 24 and Mac 26, both complain about this. Boat is great in all weather but does not point as well as I'd like but I needed the wing keel so I deal with it.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc.	Raising the mast! Catalina, please make an add on mast raising system for me!!!Other than that, nothing, love everything.
Sailing characterisitcs	As mentioned, she can't point as well as a full keel but I've made due. In the chop and the mixed air of an inland lake she's better than anything else on my lake (no J24s).
Motoring characterisitcs	Great except there is no way my 4hp will stop the boat. When docking at bars the entire place will watch in amazement after I kill the engine two boat lengths away.
Liveability	Kidding right? I've slept in it a couple of times but I would be more comfortable in my Jeep. I do have DVD player and radio to help when I have to be below.

Other comments	Love the boat. I looked at many other boats but always loved the Capri 22. Driving six hours to get her was totally worth it.
