Review of the Catalina 30 by Robert Esser

Year built 1975
Location of boat Erie, Pa
The boat is sailed on The Great Lakes
How the boat is used Day sailing
Normal wind strength less than 10 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1998
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes - it is older, but in reasonably good shape; has an Atomic 4 gas engine; does burn some oil; oil gets dirty; spend about 5 times as much time working on it compared to sailing - hopefully that will change; will probably change out the mounts for the lifeline posts - concerned about possible leakage - the holes are in the path of the rain water and the water sits next to the posts next to the cabin entrance.
Gear that's been added took out the stove - added a microwave put in a new charging system
Structural or complex improvements poured resin into a drilled hole in the cockpit floor - there were cracks in the floor - glssed over the cracks, and then painted the floor
The boat's best features the room compared to the length - large cockpit and cabin
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. front hatch support shaft seal
Sailing characterisitcs sailing since 1969 on Columbias and now the 30' Catalina
Motoring characterisitcs outboards and now the atomic 4 - need to know more about the engine; maintenance etc
Liveability nothing special
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any good experience with the yacht dealer in Youngstown NY
