Review of the Catalina 250 by Sonny Reeves

Year built 1997
Location of boat driveway
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Multi-week coastal cruising
Normal wind strength 10-15 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1997
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes, we wish it was bigger, but the we would not be able to sail in a different place each break time
Gear that's been added
Structural or complex improvements
The boat's best features small enough to trailer and big enough to sail any where we want in safety and comfort
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc.
Sailing characterisitcs Our 250 is a wing keel tall rig and must be reefed in strong winds, On our last sail in the Fla Keys we sailed in a rain/Winds 20-24 seas offshore6-8 ft and felt safe even if uncomfortable because of the cold rain 60f, Day before was 80f winds 10 to 14 seas 2- 4ft. both days were fun sailing. with 3.5 ft draft we can cruise intercoastal in skinny water.
Motoring characterisitcs We use a four stroke 9.9 johnson and motor at about 6 to 7 knots. Has lots of power for docking
Liveability Close, we sail with our two teenage sons and have had 8 aboard for sailing and snokeling on day trips. We anchor out a few nites and then stay near a marina for showers and space. we stay on the Ga coast during the summer and that's Hot. We stick a cheap$100. AC unit in the ft hatch when we have access to power at a marina. The berths are adaquate with the aft being larger than the berth on a 28.Lots more storage space
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any)
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any Excellant service and resourse for sailing
