Sometime opening the companionway hatch from inside can be a chore. One day while at a home store I saw an 8 stainless draw pull and thought that is what I needed. If you undo the screws visible from inside the hatch, the trim on the outside can be removed. Drill and countersink two holes from outside to match the pull and bolt it into place. Depending on the head of the bolts, you may have to drill out a couple of slight dimples in the trim as well to is will clear the bolt heads. Then reattach the trim and youre done.
