Review of the Catalina 30 by Kent Little

Year built 1991
Location of boat Kemah Texas
The boat is sailed on Bays, sounds, or protected salt water
How the boat is used Weekends and longer
Normal wind strength 16-22 knots
Average size of crew 2-4
Liveaboard? No
Owner bought the boat in 1999
If the clock could be turned back, would owner buy again? Yes. I've had a lot of experience with other Catalina's and I would buy her again. Probably buy a bigger one later.
Gear that's been added Refrigeration, Chart Plotter, Stern rail seats, Full enclosure, 100% heavy weather jib, AutoPilot with remote, Newer VHF with exterior Mike
Structural or complex improvements Not really
The boat's best features Big Cockpit, Biggest interior space for the size. Walk Thru Transom.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Holding tank ruptured, some of the plumbing lines are hard to get to but all are typical production boat problems. Nothing big.
Sailing characterisitcs We've sailed her in the bay in just about everything and have had her offshore in 18-20kts and she sails well on all points even with the wing keel
Motoring characterisitcs You could always use more power, but this boat with the 25hp has enough.
Liveability It's the biggest 30' made. The previous owner did live aboard it for 2 years.
The owner's experience in dealing with Hunter (if any) I'm a Catalina dealer, so I have no problems with them and I would say most owners do not.
The owner's experience with the boat dealer or broker, if any I am a dealer, so I can't comment here.
Other comments A great boat to own and sail! 91 was the first year of the walk thru transom before the swim step.
