Full Cockpit Enclosure (Cat 30)

posted 10-07-2008 by Ron Chandler

After sailing in cold, snowy, and miserable weather. I decided to make a full enclosure. I already had the dodger and bimini. Other materials:
15 yds. 60 forest green sunbrella
10 yds. .20 mil plastic
4 #10 72 finished zippers
6 #10 60 finished zippers
200 twist lock fittings
6 7/8 stainless tubing
stainless fittings for tubing.

Cockpit Enclosure

It took me around 50 labor hours to complete the project.
I am 59 and can stand on the rear seat and see over the dodger. Headroom inside is terrific.
The boom has 4 clearance while sailing.
Notice the bimini mounts to the genoa track.

Warm and Dry

All of the (panels) can be removed and the bimini left on. Or the entire enclosure can be quickly removed.
I am now making Solid Panels for winter, and Mesh panels for summer sailing. Shade and breezy (also for those bug infested areas).

This is a great project!
