Gear that's been added The boat came very well equipped from the factory, in terms of standing and running rigging we have everything we need.
Structural or complex improvements None. The hull and deck are in perfect condition.
The boat's best features The cockpit is huge for a boat this size providing ample space for family activities and an excellent platform for racing. The cabin is well laid out and accomidates my family of three (wife and daughter) comfortably for weekending. When we trailer to the Keys and the Gulf Coast we can prep the boat from trailer to launch in just over 30 minutes. We also store the boat at the marina on the trailer with the mast stepped and the boom rigged. Launching is a five minute opperation. I love the fact that I dont have to worry about chafing dock lines and bottom fouling.
Problem areas in terms of design, materials, maintenance, etc. Gaining access to the quarter berth storage areas is a chore. The cushions are too long forcing us to constantly shift day bags and overnight gear from side to side. It is very difficult to hold up the cushion and the hatch and retreive the sought after item with only one free hand. I'm thinking of cutting the quarter berth cushions in half. We are also looking for a portable folding table that will work in the cockpit and in the cabin.
Sailing characterisitcs Great light air performance. Good balance on all points of sail. Our winter winds average 15knots and often gust to 20+. I could use a 2nd reef point in the main, but otherwise can manage the boat well in these conditions. We love the shoal draft keel. We can "sail" all over the Intracoastal Waterway when deeper draft boats are restricted to motoring in the channel.
Motoring characterisitcs 8hp outboard cruises well at 5 knots and provides a good turn of speed if needed.
